Wakura Hot Spring has a history of 1200 years since it was opened. Transparent hot water constantly gushes from under the ground through crystals in the granite. Wakura Hot Spring is one of the most famous hot springs in Japan as Juppenshaikku (an author in the Edo Period) mentioned its effects in his “Tokaidochu Hizakurige” (Up the Eastern Sea Circuit on Shank’s Mare). This hot spring is high in chloride, so those with sensitive skin should take their time getting in, and let their body become accustomed to the water.
